Salt of the earth...

"You are the salt of the earth but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again?"  Matthew 5:13

What does this mean?  -laelrendall

I bring this up mainly because I am currently making the minimum wage, and the state of Illinois just gave me a one dollar raise, so obviously I am interested in the subject. :) I'm wondering what everyone thinks about the minimum wage: how it affects the economy, and whether or not it's a good idea. Does the minimum wage help the poor, or does it do more harm than good? -jeremyh113

Eucharistic Frequency

A question from rthomasrendall

Why is it that so many churches have chosen to observe the eucharist (or communion, Lord's supper) with relative infrequency?  The practice during the NT-era and most of church history seems to be weekly or even daily observance.  I’ve never received an explanation for the less frequent practice that I found biblically or philosophically satisfying – usually it boils down to “we don’t want it to become too routine…”

Acts ii.46  And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart…

Acts xx.7  And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

I’m interested to hear you all weigh in on this.  As well, do any of you know when frequency of observance began to decline and why?  I’ve done a little probing and haven’t found much on it yet…

Arts and Intellectualism

This is sort of a parallel question to the music one...

Why is there such a lack of good arts, humanities and intellectualism in Christianity today.  In the past, Christians led the way with art, music, writing etc. and now there seems to be a complete lack.  (I have started reading a book on this topic called, The Scandal of the Evangelical Mind, if anyone is interested.) -laelrendall

Staying at Home

Here's a question for all of you stay at home moms out there...now that I'm done teaching for the year and have switched to the stay at home mom role, I am finding it hard not to get bored and frustrated (which I knew would happen, just not this soon). So could some of you please give me a break down of your day, whether you keep it organized and planned and if so, how. My biggest problem right now is that it is just so hot outside this time of year in Florida that we are confined to the house a lot. I would love to hear some ideas of things to do and how to make the most of our time together. -floridagirl78
